Indulge in the Dominican Republic | Fried Snacks and All
This 6-day trip is a great getaway to remind yourself of how delicious fried food is. Enjoy sunshine, beach relaxation, and slow your metabolism as you eat delicious fried snacks along the way. Wipe the grease off your fingers so you can grab your coffee cup without it slipping out of your hand. You deserve it!
PROVISIONAL ITINERARY
Day 1 : Bienvenidos
Arrive into Santo Domingo and spend your first day wandering the cobblestone streets of the Colonial Zone and enjoying the sounds, tastes, and sights of this gorgeous seaside city. Let the rhythms of the DR sweep you off your feet with a latin dance class before you head out to bachata the night away.
Day 2: La Bahia de Samaná
After breakfast, head to Samana Bay. Arrive at your beachside hotel by mid-afternoon, and take some time to relax at the beach or dive right into fun activities (boat trip, horseback ride, snorkeling). Hope nobody mistakes you for a manatee. Eat a delicious local seafood dinner while your toes wiggle in the sand.
Day 3: Island Permaculture
After breakfast of mangu, fried eggs, cheese, and salami, head out to learn about important local issues in a nearby community. Enjoy a delicious local Dominican lunch. Spend the late afternoon beach-hopping before heading back to the hotel for dinner and a slow-paced evening workout to unwind.
Day 4: Ecolodge Dreams
Wake up to the sounds of birds singing and enjoy a morning fitness session with the river flowing in the background. After breakfast, hop the ferry to Los Haitises National Park, keeping an eye out for dolphins and manatees. Settle in at your hotel, a stunning eco-lodge nestled into the hillside with river-fed pools and a magnificent view of nearby Samana Bay. In the afternoon, take a boat tour of the national park, explore hidden beaches, and ogle at thousand year old cave pictographs. Spend the evening lounging in the natural pools with a glass of local rum in hand.
Day 5: Old City Vibes
After lunch, head back to Santo Domingo for your final night in the DR. Eat some chicharron in some of our favorite spots in the Colonial Zone, then smoosh some popsicles and artisan chocolate into your pockets for later. Eat a dinner of mouth-watering Dominican dishes and one last chance to put those Latin dance skills to the test - but chances are you’re too full to look hot doing it.
Day 6: Hasta Luego
Enjoy a final coffee on the plaza or a stroll through town as you grab any last gifts or handicrafts from the artisan markets.
But… what will we eat?
Tostones, yucas fritas, yanequeques, pastelitos, chicharrones, catibías, salami frito.
